SO... WHAT IS PODCAST ANYWAY?

A combination of the words Ipod and broadcast, (iPOD broadCAST) An audio broadcast that has been converted to an MP3 file or other audio file format for playback in a digital music player. Although many podcasts are played in a regular computer, the original idea was to listen on a portable device; hence, the "pod" name from "iPod." Although podcasts are mostly verbal, they may contain music, images and video.

Although the Apple iPod and iTunes have had a major impact on the "casting" of digital media across the web, almost any digital player capable of playing .mp3 files can be used to listen to podcasts. Today, cell phones, Blackberry devices, Zune players, desktop computers and laptops can be used to listen to podcasts or what some people like to simply call "webcasts.

HOW TO LISTEN

You can listen to the Corvette Courier News Podcast in a couple of different ways. You can download the file directly from here by selecting the podcast link next to the "Listen Now" indicator above. The file will be downloaded to your computer or mobile device for immediate listening or to save it for later. This is especially convenient for listening on the way to work or while waiting for appointments.
I try to keep the audio files as small as possible to make your download faster, but you must keep in mind that these files can be anywhere from ten to twenty minutes in length, therefore download times can be anywhere from three to fifteen minutes depending on your connection and hardware. Your mileage may vary!

SUBSCRIBING TO THE RSS FEED

RSS feeds are the real heart and soul of podcasting. RSS feeds are .xml files that tell your device where it can find the podcast on the web and other important information about the podcast. Once subscribed your device can be configured to automatically go out and check for new shows. The device can then download them when they become available so you will always have the latest information on your device. RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication. This is quickly becoming the best way to produce and deliver your very own content on the web. Personal content can then be listed by podcast directories and services online so people can find your content. iTunes and Podcast Alley are two very popular places online to find podcast directories. There are simply millions of podcasts currently available for your listening enjoyment. If you are a geek like me you will be able to spend way too much time exploring the information available out there!!
